Top Ten Reasons To Supplement Your Diet With EPA Fish Oil
by: david mcevoy
We are in the grip of an omega 3 fish oil wave, every day more studies are published to show just how important this nutrient is to us. Last week it was children with concentration problems this week it is children with autism. Here are some very good reasons why you should consider supplementing your diet with a high quality EPA fish oil supplement.
1. Most of the modern western diets contain way too much omega 6 in the form of breads and pasta, by supplementing your diet with an omega 3 fish oil supplement it will help to correct this imbalance of omega 6 to omega 3.
2. High grade omega 3 EPA fish oil has been shown to be very beneficial in the fight against depression. If your brain becomes clogged up with Tran’s fatty acids (bad fats) it is possible that the whole messaging system within your brain could become sluggish, should this happen then onset of depression may occur
3 .In one recent study performed, people who supplemented there diet with EPA fish oil lost more weight than a placebo controlled group. This is thought to be due the cells releasing the bad fats, and the body then burning them as fuel.
4. High grade EPA fish oil helps with concentration and the ability to think clearly by aiding the passage of signals within the tiny gaps of the brain called synapses.
5. Omega 3 is an essential fatty acid and cannot be produced by the body. It is called an essential fatty acid because it is Essential for correct body balance and function of most vital organs and hormones.
6. Omega 3 high grade EPA fish oil has blood thinning properties similar to aspirin, this is very beneficial for people who are at risk from a heart attack. And other similar cardiac problems. Those with arrhythmia problems and those taking blood thinning medication should consult their GP.
7. The quality of your skin, hair and nails depends on your diet being rich in all the correct essential fatty acids, especially omega 3. The body needs these essential nutrients for optimal grow and rejuvenation.
8. The omega 3 we used to obtain from milk and meat has now been reduced drastically because the cows are mainly grain fed instead of grass fed, this has reduced the omega content in meat and milk to a very low level.
9. During pregnancy the unborn baby takes all the nutrients from the mother, this includes the omega 3 nutrient DHA. If after the birth of the child these correct nutrients are not replaced then the onset of post natal depression could occur.
10.Western diets can be lazy and full of the wrong kind of fats i.e. trans fats. Therefore we are not giving our bodies the correct balance of omega 3 essential fatty acids. The body will then start to show signs of this imbalance:
Dry eyes
Dry skin
Chicken skin on the back of upper arms
Brittle nails
Frequent infections
Poor wound healing
Low moods
Mood swings

Skin Disorders - Can Fish Oil Omega3 Improve Skin Health?
Skin Disorders - Can Fish Oil Omega3 Improve Skin Health?
by: Larry L. Taylor
Skin disorders such as acne, dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis may benefit from a regular fish oil supplement. Omega-3 fatty acids are important to skin health in several ways. They may even reduce your risk of wrinkles and sagging. Here’s a look at why fish oil is being recommended for skin disorders of all kinds.
Cause of Skin Disorders - Problems
When it comes to poor skin health, nutrient deficits are often responsible. In cases of essential fatty acid deficiency, dermatitis is always present. Dermatitis is a blanket term that means inflammation of the skin. It can be caused by perfume or other types of allergies. It accompanies eczema, psoriasis and seborrhea. Too much heat, cold, environmental toxins and insect bites can also cause it.
Benefits of Fish Oil
Increased intake of omega-3 fatty acids is beneficial for all kinds of these skin disorders, because it has natural inflammation fighting activity. They are also beneficial for skin health, because they are a primary component of sebum.
Sebum is the skin’s natural lubricant or moisturizer, if you prefer. It forms a protective barrier that prevents damage from pathogens and the elements. So a fish oil supplement is often recommended for people with dry, itchy skin.
Researchers looked at the benefit of omega-3 fatty acids for reducing sagging. They found that after three months of supplementation, there was a 10% improvement in firmness. So, not only is fish oil good for skin health, it is good for the appearance, as well. Firmer skin looks less wrinkled.
Why Take Fish Oil?
Many doctors recommend omega-3 fatty acids for their patients with acne for several reasons; first, because of its anti-inflammatory activity. A pimple is actually an inflammation of the hair follicle. Hair follicles are present all over the body, even though the hairs that come from them may be tiny and fair in color.
Second, skin disorders such as acne are often accompanied by depression and poor mental health. Omega-3 fatty acids have proven benefits for relieving depression. Chromium, zinc and selenium are also recommended for skin health, as is beta-carotene and biotin.
The hair, nails and skin are closely related, because of the similar components. Often, an underlying nutritional deficiency is the cause of dryness of the hair and skin, as well as brittle nails. Flaking scalp or dandruff is actually a skin problem.
Itching, rashes and hives are often caused by low production of sebum. Changes in the skin’s color are sometimes related to low levels of vitamin E, which also causes the hair to be dry and brittle. Thus, the nutrients that are important to the skin’s health are also beneficial to the appearance of the hair and the strength of the finger nails.
Fish oil is known to significantly improve the health of the hair and the nails. The hair becomes more shiny and lustrous. Itchy dry skin resolves and finger nails grow faster.
Whether you have skin disorders or want to avoid them, supplementation is recommended. It’s good for your health today and tomorrow. For more information on how fish oil can improve your appearance and overall health, please see my website listed below. Larry L. Taylor

Men's Health - Can Fish Oil Omega3 Benefit Men's Health?
Men's Health - Can Fish Oil Omega3 Benefit Men's Health?
by: Larry L. Taylor
Fish oil may be particularly beneficial to men's health, because of the omega-3 fatty acids they contain. Low intake of fish and low circulating levels of DHA, an omega3 fat, are associated with prostate cancer, BPH or enlarged prostate, prostatitis and with fertility issues, such as low sperm count and motility.
DHA Importance
DHA and other omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory activity and counter the effects of other types of dietary fat, such as omega 6 and saturated fats. If you haven’t heard already, you should not be eating anything that contains trans-fat. Food manufacturers are now required to list the trans-fat content, because it contributes to a variety of health problems and is not necessary to the human body.
Prostatis is an inflammation of the prostate gland. It usually begins gradually and lingers on for several weeks. Bacterial or other type of infection may or may not be present. Symptoms include pain and, if bacterial infection is present, fever. Protecting the prostate is an important part of men's health. Fish oil, because of its anti-inflammatory activity, reduces the risk of prostatitis.
At birth, the prostate gland is tiny. It grows rapidly during puberty and a second growth spurt typically occurs after the age of 40. Nine out of ten men suffer from enlarged prostate or BPH by the time they reach the age of 85. A fish oil supplement may reduce the risk of BPH, which is benign. Studies have shown that blood levels of omega-3 fatty acids are lower in people with BPH and even lower in those with prostate cancer.
Sperm Count Increase
An important aspect of young men's health, when they want to have children, is low sperm count or low sperm motility. Although the reasons for this are unclear, it has been shown that a fish oil supplement increases both the count and the motility of the sperm. Many scientists hope that supplementation will reduce the need for in-vitro fertilization, because infants born through IVF have greater health risks.
Heart Health Improved
One benefit of omega-3 fatty acids that is important to everyone is the reduced risk of heart disease. It is relevant to men's health, because a man is more likely to suffer from a fatal heart attack than is a woman. A fish oil supplement is beneficial to the heart in several ways.
Clotting Risk Reduced
First, it reduces the risk of clotting. Clots can interrupt the blood flow to the heart, causing a heart attack. Blood clots are also responsible for stroke.
Second, omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to lower total and LDL cholesterol levels. High cholesterol, in particular, high levels of LDL cholesterol increase the risk of the heart disease that is typically seen in older people.
Commonly referred to as hardening of the arteries, atherosclerosis occurs when LDL cholesterol builds up on the interior portion of the arterial walls.
Men over the age of 40 are at a higher risk of heart attack. So, omega3s are particularly beneficial for men's health, from the age of 40 on. For more information please see my website listed below. Thanks, Larry L. Taylor

Can Fish Oil Give Beautiful Skin?
Can Fish Oil Give Beautiful Skin?
by: Larry L. Taylor
Can fish oil give beautiful facial skin? Studies have said yes. What make fish oil so good for the skin and for our health?
Some people are skeptical about the benefits of increasing our intake of omega-3 fatty acids. Scientists are trying to explain exactly why a single nutrient would be so important to our health. They have many theories. Some are more unusual than others. For example, the “water-dwelling ape theory” is a bit unusual.
But, regardless of how or why it happened, many of the body’s systems are dependent upon omega-3 fatty acids. Without them, we suffer from symptoms minor and serious.
Taking fish oil for facial skin dryness is one of the minor or less important benefits, but for someone that suffers from excessive dryness, it is very important. So, it’s all relative.
Having beautiful facial skin may seem like simply a matter of aesthetics. But, we know that a healthy, well-nourished body glows.
While there are a number of things that we don’t understand about “why” omega-3 fatty acids are so important, we do understand why they are important for moist, soft, healthy and beautiful facial skin. It has to do with the composition of sebum.
Sebum is the skin’s natural moisturizer, lubricant and protector. It has slight antibacterial activity, too. When people suffer from excessive dryness, it is due to decreased production of sebum, which is primarily composed of fatty acids.
The benefit of taking fish oil for facial skin tightening undoubtedly has to do with improving the skin’s moisture content, but something else must be going on, too. Researchers have yet to discern what that “something” is, but they have seen a 10% improvement in firmness after only three months of daily supplementation.
Other nutrients are important to beautiful facial skin, too. Protein is needed to build new cells and fibers. Vitamin C is a necessary co-factor for strong elastic fibers. Deficiency in the vitamins A or E is associated with acne, eczema and other unwanted conditions. So, we can’t say that taking fish oil for facial skin will solve all of your problems. It’s just a good idea.
Because of all of the other health benefits, which include a reduced risk of heart disease, type II diabetes, arthritis and other age-related conditions, supplementation is a really good idea. It might be possible to get enough vitamin A, C and E through diet alone. It’s pretty easy to get enough protein, too. But, the modern diet has been stripped of omega-3 fat. Researchers believe that is the cause of what they refer to as “modern illnesses”.
Personally, I consider beautiful facial skin a bonus. My primary interests have to do with my long-term health. But, the short-term benefits have been important to me, too. Before I started taking fish oil for facial skin improvement, I frequently suffered from bouts of depression and anxiety, but not anymore. So, stop being skeptical! Look better and feel better with omega3 fish oil

Boost your Brain with Fish Oil
Boost your Brain with Fish Oil
by: Emile Jarreau
What do dodocosahexaenoic acid or DHA and eicosapentaenoic acid or EPA have in common? They are the two compounds that make up the famed of omega-3 fatty acids. We have all heard how incredibly healthy these fish oils are for our bodies in helping to lower blood pressure, reduce overall cholesterol, and even reduce the effects of certain types of cancers, but did you know they can also dramatically increase the power of your brain as well?
Studies have concluded that increasing your body's intake of omega-3 fatty acids can help to increase your brain and cognitive function on many levels. This includes reduced risks of many mental and psychological disorders such as attention deficit disorder, bipolar disorder, Alzheimer's, and other forms of dementia. It is even theorized that lack of omega-3 fatty acids in the diet can even lead to disorders such as dyslexia. Other studies indicate the presence of these potent fish oils can give you a head start right from the moment of birth.
The University of Western Australia completed a now popular study that concluded that pregnant women who included DHA in high levels during their pregnancy had a much better chance of delivering babies that had increased hand eye coordination than those born to mothers who did not follow this prescription. In addition, the pregnant women who took DHA had a significantly less chance of delivering their babies prematurely.
Speaking specifically about conditions such as ADHD or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, there have been studies that were concluded that after three months of giving children diagnosed with ADHD fish oil supplements, their behavior showed marked improvement and much better focus then prior to taking the supplements. They showed improvements not just in general behavior, but in subjects such as reading and spelling as well. While these effects are amazing indeed, one of the most staggering effects that fish oil has on the brain may be linked to those with depression.
Other studies have indicated that ingesting fish oil capsules can have a similar effect to Prozac for those that have been suffering with the illness of depression. This is an amazing finding and if true, could help treat tens of thousands of individuals who suffer from this horrible illness on a regular basis. This finding has been substantiated by citing countries that include fish as a major part of their diet having fewer incidences of depression as well. Imagine treating individuals with a fish oil supplement versus a strong narcotic like Prozac? While it may turn the medical industry on its head, fish oil supplements may just be the natural cure that many of us have been searching for in our lives.
While the above studies don't necessarily prove that fish oil is a perfect cure in all instances, the information gathered so far has led many to include fish oil supplements as part of their regular daily diet. Make sure to speak with your doctor to obtain the highest level of fish oil supplements if you're looking to include them in yours as well.

Fish Oil for a Healthy Heart
Fish Oil for a Healthy Heart
by: Emile Jarreau
It seems that the healthy benefits of fish oil and omega-3 fatty acids are still being discovered. Aside from all of the health giving benefits of has been credited with in recent years, it seems that one of the most profound is its ability to help protect our hearts.
Protecting our hearts is something that is extremely valuable considering that heart disease is the number one killer of adults in the United States. This is due to a combination of a bad diet and lack of exercise and the numbers of heart attacks seem to be growing every single year. This makes the recent findings of the benefits of fish oil all the more exciting and promising for those that are looking to reduce the chances that they will succumb to this horrible disease.
Recent studies conducted in Denmark actually showed that ingesting fish oil supplements could reduce heart attacks by as much as 50%. This number is incredibly staggering but it seems to be backed up by another study from the Harvard school of public health that shows that those who include omega-3 fatty acids as part of the regular diet greatly lessen the risk of incurring any heart disease whatsoever. So, what makes these supplements so heart healthy?
One of the reasons that omega-3's as found in fish oil are so good for your heart is their ability to lower blood pressure. High blood pressure is just one of many risk factors found in those that eventually get heart disease. In addition, the very nature of the compounds themselves help to lower your triglyceride and overall cholesterol levels. The combination of high triglycerides and high cholesterol levels is a potent concoction that often leads to heart disease later in life. One of the main reasons that fish oil is so potent in lowering these harmful numbers is their ability to act as an anticoagulant and prevent the platelets from sticking together in the body causing high blood pressure and eventual blockages. They also have anti-inflammatory properties which reduce inflammation in your veins and arteries as well helping your cardiovascular system to work more efficiently.
While all of this information is extremely positive and helps to make the case of why you should include fish oil as part of your regular diet, it doesn't tell the whole story. If you are truly looking to reap the benefits of fish oil and have a healthy heart and a long life, you must combine ingesting fish oil with an overall healthy diet and a plan of consistent daily exercise. All of these elements are incredibly important and must work together if you want to truly stave off such harmful maladies as heart disease. Fish oil has some amazing properties but it is not a wonder cure all. You must strive to live an overall healthy lifestyle to ensure you can live healthily and avoid heart disease, heart attacks, and possible stroke for the rest of your life.

The BAD Side of Fish Oil
The BAD Side of Fish Oil
by: Emile Jarreau
Considering the healthy benefits of taking fish oil as part of a healthy diet, it might be hard to imagine that there are any negative side effects that can occur, but like most things we take into our bodies, not all of the effects are good even containing omega 3 fatty acids.
First of all, to be clear, the positive aspects of fish oil and Omega 3 Fatty Acids far outweigh the benefits. Their ability to help people live longer and healthier lives has been well documented and effects that have been experienced in those who have taken them range from lowering blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels, lessening the risks of heart disease, stroke, and heart attack and even reducing the risks of various types of cancers. Even considering this, it is always wise to be aware of any potential side effects that can occur when talking any type of additional food supplement. Because our bodies do not make Omega 3's, we have to ingest them either through fatty fish such as salmon, tuna, or mackerel or through taking fish capsules or liquids. So, what ARE the potential negative side effects of it?
The first and most common is associated with the fact that you are taking in actual raw oil from fish. These can include nausea associated with the taste and smell and the occasional fishy burp or gas that may happen after the oil has been release in your body. These are not exactly life threatening, but they can be an annoyance, especially when in the company of other individuals.
Perhaps the worst and potentially most dangerous downside of taking fish oil is a potential side effect that also has a positive side as well. You see, it acts as a natural anti-coagulant which works to thin the blood. This helps with a host of maladies including high blood pressure and heart disease, but could in fact increase the risk of stroke. In addition, for those who are already taking anti-coagulant medication, this increase reaction due to the effects of the fish oil could present a dangerous concoction that prevents the blood from coagulating at all. This could, in worst cases, lead to nose bleeds or even internal bleeding or even vomiting of blood, all of which would require you to seek medical attention immediately. If you are taking any types of medications at all, it is wise to seek the advice of a physician before adding large doses of it to your diet. In addition, it is recommended to NEVER exceed the recommended dosage whether you are taking medications or not.
Overall, taking fish oil as a health supplement is relatively safe and can benefit your health in a host of ways. It is simply a wise thing to be mindful of the side effects so that you don't turn a positive activity into a potentially life threatening condition.

How to choose the BEST Fish Oil Supplements
How to choose the BEST Fish Oil Supplements
by: Emile Jarreau
i
Touting benefits that include everything from lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels to potentially even curing certain forms of cancer including breast, colon, and prostate, it's no wonder that fish oil supplements containing omega-3 fatty acids have become one of the most popular nutritional supplements in the world. With this popularity comes increased confusion from the general public.
Going into your local vitamin store and trying to choose a fish oil supplement can be a truly difficult thing to do. There are as many brands of supplements as there are fish in the sea and it is hard to know exactly which one is the best one to spend your money on. Here are a few tips to help you in performing your search.
First of all, your body can only use fish oil in the forms of DHA and EPA. Any omega-3 supplements that are in a form called ALA may not be as efficient because the body will first have to convert them before using them. These supplements include vegetable sources such as flaxseed and flaxseed oil. While there's certainly nothing wrong with these products, they may not be as efficient and strong as buying of it is already in the forms of DHA and EPA.
Secondly, you want to purchase pharmaceutical grade fish oil supplements. This will generally guarantee the potency of the product that you're trying to buy and make sure that you're not paying for extra fillers that won't end up doing you any good at all.
The next crucial tip when trying to buy quality supplements is to look at what kind of fish that it has been derived from. If you see words like “various fish”, or “marine lipids”, it is best to stay away from these products as they could've been harvested from polluted waters and contain high levels of mercury which would produce the exact opposite effect that you're looking for in taking fish oil supplements. Instead, look to see that the fish oil has been harvested from fish that reside in cold and non-polluted waters. Fish that fall into this category would be those of tuna, salmon, and mackerel. In addition, you want to make sure that on the product label or the product's website that it mentions that the fish oil has been molecularly distilled. This is the only way to truly rid it of any harmful contaminants and will ensure a quality product.
Purchasing quality fish oil supplements is never cheap, but when weighed against the actual benefits of it could provide your body, it can be well worth the investment. Make sure to take your time and do your due diligence when purchasing fish oil supplements to make sure that you get exactly the type of high quality product that you're paying for.
